Onto the review! Have you ever been perplexed about a question as a kid and then when you asked an adult never got a straight answer? That’s how I feel about AoT S4. The first arc establishes a new setting, new characters, even arguably a new protagonist in Reiner… And then re-introduces our protagonist whose personality has completely changed with no explanation. Am I expected to take this complete transformation and accept it as “development”? Now I’m newly perplexed about the missing pieces that formed Eren that way. This show loves to divert for as long as possible, and then slap on new material when they need to answer questions. If you’re wondering about anything in the show, just expect a new titan mechanic to pop up, because the twists are impossible to predict based on the presented material. The magnitude of this cast is insane. You cannot tell a story about a fictional military drama with nontrivial politics AND have slice-of-life moments between the corps members AND try to build a strong shounen-esque trio opposing some “villainous” characters… and expect me to care about all of them. The show seems to require motivations for every character… but it becomes so dragged out. The simplistic message of “There’s another side to the story” is established very quickly and repeated ad nauseum. Reiner is the tortured character who has lived on both sides of the war. Gabi's personality and motivations are identical to season 1 Eren…. Just seen from the other side. But Falco is entirely useless. He’s merely another generic “hero” who has nothing to add to the already simplistic message. I’ve seen a lot of people complain about MAPPA’s adaptation, but personally it made little difference since I never liked the art in the first place. In terms of the animation, sure there was some janky rotoscoping and uncanny CGI, but those were only brief moments that broke immersion for me. The soundtrack was also a slight drop from the previous seasons. I love Sawano, and his specialty seems to be building up instrumental tracks towards an epic moment with a vocal song. But there weren’t any show-stopping tracks like that this season. Actually I wish this was rotoscoped... I understand that this series will be concluded in a few months. So while I understand some of my questions may be answered in the Final Part (hopefully) of this Final Season...I can’t say I care. The Nine Titans built the Eldian Empire. Around 2,000 years ago, Ymir Fritz obtained the Power of the Titans and became the first Titan, the Founding Titan. [3] [5] Thirteen years later, she died and her power was then divided between her three daughters who had been forced by their father to consume her remains. [5]
The Attack Titan (進撃の巨人 Shingeki no Kyojin?)[10] is one of the Nine Titans that can see through the memories of both its past and its future holders, and has fought for freedom throughout the generations. It is currently in the possession of Eren Jaeger. Abilities Future memory inheritance While all of the Nine Titans could receive memories of past inheritors, the Attack Titan could also receive memories of inheritors yet to come. These memories led those with the Attack Titan to move forward, fighting for freedom.[8] Eren Kruger received memories of Grisha Jaeger telling his son to protect Mikasa Ackermann and Armin Arlelt, although he did not know whose memories they were.[10] Grisha Jaeger knew of the Founding Titan's bloodline restriction from the future memories of his son, Eren.[8] History The Attack Titan, like all the Nine Titans, was brought into the world after the death of Ymir Fritz. Though this Titan was presumably caught up in the conflict of houses between the eight Titans of the Eldian Empire subservient to the Founding Titan, it is said that the Attack Titan always fought for the freedom of Eldia no matter the day and age. During the Great Titan War as Marley gradually gained control over seven of the Nine Titans, the Attack Titan evidently never fell into Marley's hands and remained on the mainland while the Founding Titan remained overseas on Paradis Island where the 145th Fritz King, Karl Fritz, relocated the capital.[11][10] Eren Kruger revealed his true colors In the year 819, an Eldian spy in the Marley Public Security named Eren Kruger inherited the Attack Titan from an unknown predecessor. During the thirteen years he held the Attack Titan, it is unknown how often he used it, if at all, until the year 832 when he brought Grisha Jaeger to Paradis Island. At the borderline, after the Restorationists were turned into Pure Titans and sent to wander the island, Kruger made use of the Attack Titan to destroy the Public Security and their ship before disposing of all evidence of the event. Afterward, Kruger entrusted Grisha with the mission to obtain the Founding Titan from the King of the Walls and passed on his Attack Titan.[11][10] Upon inheriting the Attack Titan from Kruger, Grisha used his Titan to head northwards towards the Walls, where he was found by soldier Keith Sadies of the Scout Regiment.[12] After his arrival in Shiganshina District, it is unknown how often Grisha made use of his Attack Titan, if at all. Story The Fall of Shiganshina arc Grisha uses the Attack Titan to steal the Founding Titan After holding the Attack Titan for thirteen years, Wall Maria comes under attack by the Warriors of Marley,[13][14] and Grisha decides the time has come to negotiate with the Founding Titan or take it by force. Arriving at the Underground Chapel, Grisha pleads with Frieda Reiss for the sake of Eldia and the Walls, but his cries are neglected.[15][12] Although insistent about taking the Founding Titan by force, Grisha is unable to until he is pressured to by the future holder of the Attack Titan: his son Eren Jaeger. Goaded on by the memories of his family, his comrades who died before him and the mission he was entrusted to fulfill by his predecessor, Grisha used the Attack Titan and overpowered Frieda, stealing the Founding Titan and killing her along with the rest of her family, except for her father, who escaped.[8] That night, after Wall Maria's breach, Grisha reunites with his son. In tears and on the verge of hysteria, Grisha gives Eren the basement key and forces him to take an injection that causes him to lose his memories. As he is injecting Eren, he tells Eren that he must get to their basement, and that Eren must learn to control his power in order to save Mikasa's, Armin's, and everyone else's lives.[16] The injection causes Eren to transform into a Titan, and Grisha is devoured by his own son.[15] The Struggle for Trost arc Eren's Titan form For five years, Eren Jaeger lived his life unaware of his possession of the power of the Titans until the year 850, during the struggle for Trost. Upon being caught and eaten by a Titan, Eren's injuries and burning desire to slaughter the Titans trigger his first transformation into his Titan form. In a nearly mindless state, Eren wanders Trost as a Titan, slaughtering many Titans throughout the day all while avoiding bringing harm to the human cadets around him. His Titan eventually exhausts itself, and Eren emerges with healed wounds.[1][16] The Attack Titan carries the boulder Completely clueless as to the nature of the Attack Titan's powers, the Trost Garrison takes Eren into their custody and questions him about his Titan nature. When it becomes clear that the Garrison soldiers present cannot be reasoned with, cannon fire is used against Eren, but he successfully accomplishes a partial transformation of his Titan and protects himself and his friends from the blast. Upon Commander Dot Pyxis' arrival in Trost, the military decides to make use of Eren's Titan to seal the breached gate of Trost.[7] Upon reaching the boulder needed to seal the breach in Wall Rose, Eren's next transformation goes awry when his Titan falls into a feral state and attacks Mikasa Ackermann[17] before incapacitating itself. The Attack Titan lies dormant for a short time before his friend Armin Arlelt manages to communicate with Eren himself through the nape of his Titan, and Eren regains control.[18] Carrying a massive boulder through the streets as members of the Garrison Regiment and Cadet Corps defend him, the Attack Titan seals the hole in the Wall, securing humanity's first victory against the Titans.[19] The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission arc The Attack Titan against the Female Titan Some time afterward, Eren joins the Scout Regiment after his change of custody is made official in a military tribunal.[20] During his first month in the Scouts, the Attack Titan is subjected to a variety of studies by Section Commander Hange Zoë. At this time, the Scout Regiment discovers the dependency of the Titan's power upon a fixed goal in mind before transformation in addition to the drawing of blood.[21] After the month's passing, the Scout Regiment sets out on the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission. However, the scouting mission is sabotaged by the arrival of the Female Titan.[22] Within a Forest of Giant Trees, the Attack Titan battles the Female Titan, but he is defeated.[23] While Eren is later rescued from the Female Titan, the scouting mission is cut short and is considered a failure.[24] Assault on Stohess arc A few days later, the Scout Regiment corners Annie Leonhart, holder of the Female Titan, in Stohess District, and she transforms into the Female Titan once more as a last resort.[25] After some hesitation, Eren battles her a second time with his Titan. When he is overpowered late in the battle, his Titan undergoes a sudden change and catches fire in a berserker-like fit of rage. The Attack Titan gains the upper hand over Annie, though the assault comes to a close when Annie uses her hardening ability to encase herself in a crystal-like substance to avoid capture.[26] Clash of the Titans arc The Attack Titan struggles against the Armored Titan The next day, Eren joins the Scout Regiment's efforts in dealing with the sudden Wall Rose invasion. At this time, Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover reveal their respective identities as the Armored Titan and Colossal Titan. When the two transform into their Titan forms, the Attack Titan battles the Armored Titan.[27] Despite initial difficulties, the Attack Titan gains the upper hand and nearly defeats the Armored Titan until Bertholdt's Colossal Titan cuts the battle short in a last-resort effort to capture Eren.[28] Royal Government arc During the week after the invasion, the Scout Regiment goes into hiding as Military Police action against them dramatically increases. Hange Zoë runs experiments on Eren's Titan in the wilderness, where they discover that Eren is unable to harden his Titan body.[29][30] Some time later, Eren is captured by Rod Reiss, who desires to feed Eren to his daughter, Historia, in order to return the Founding Titan to the royal family. While captured, Eren gains memories of his father using his Titan to devour the Founding Titan, and slaughter the majority of the Reiss family. Eren also sees the moment where he ate his father to gain the Power of the Titans.[15] Eren shoves barrels of gunpowder into Rod's Titan During Eren's rescue, he ingests a bottle labeled "armor," and gains the ability to harden his Titan's skin in a manner similar to the Titans inside the Wall and Annie's Female Titan. Eren uses this new armor ability to protect squad Levi from the collapse of the Underground Chapel set in motion by Rod's transformation.[30] The next morning, Eren uses his powers again to shove gunpowder filled barrels into the mouth of Rod's enormous pure Titan. The resulting explosion blows apart its body and allows squad Levi to finish the job.[31] After the end of the coup d'état, Hange Zoë utilizes the Attack Titan's hardening ability to create the Executioner from Hell, although the effort required causes Eren's nose to bleed.[32] Return to Shiganshina arc The Attack Titan's hardening ability becomes an important part of Erwin Smith's plan to retake Wall Maria. Upon the Scouts' arrival to Shiganshina District, Eren switches to Titan form and uses his ability to successfully plug the hole in the Wall, then reverts to human form in order to hide from the Warriors suspected to be preparing an ambush.[33] The Attack Titan strikes the Armored Titan The mission is interrupted by the sudden appearance of the Beast Titan and the Armored Titan, beginning the battle of Shiganshina District.[33] The Attack Titan battles the Armored Titan a second time, with this duel ending in Eren's favor due to his new hardening ability.[34] Before Reiner can be killed, Bertholdt comes to his rescue and wards off the Scout Regiment soldiers before transforming into the Colossal Titan.[35] Eren attempts to attack the Colossal, but he is kicked into Wall Maria and is incapacitated.[36] Armin once again brings Eren back to his senses and formulates a plan for him to defeat the Colossal Titan. As Armin distracts Bertholdt, Eren's Titan falls to the ground near the breached north gate of Shiganshina and hardens itself. Thinking that Eren has succumbed to a concussion, Bertholdt thinks nothing of it, but soon realizes that he is seeing the hardened shell of a Titan, and at that moment of vulnerability, Eren in human form strikes at the nape of the Colossal Titan, pulling Bertholdt out of his defeated Titan form.[37] In the aftermath of the battle for Shiganshina, the survivors of the battle arrive at the basement of the Jaeger family's home, where Grisha Jaeger had left three books which, in addition to information of the outside world, detailed his past as well as the moment when he inherited the Attack Titan from Eren Kruger nearly twenty years ago.[38][11][10] Marley arc Through the years 851 to 854, the nation of Marley sent a total of 32 scouting ships to Paradis Island, all of which ended up missing. Zeke Jaeger speculates that the ships were blocked from escaping by the Attack Titan and one other Titan.[39] The Attack Titan crushes Willy Tybur As Eren confronts Reiner in Liberio, he declares that he will continue to move forward until he wipes out his enemies. Just as Willy Tybur declares war on Paradis, Eren transforms into the Attack Titan and breaks out of the building, killing many from the debris, and crushes Willy before devouring him.[40] The Attack Titan proceeds to destroy the rest of the stage and attacks the Marleyan military. It soon notices the War Hammer Titan's transformation and charges it, landing numerous blows before it can fully generate a body. Suddenly, a large spike shoots up from the ground and impales the Attack Titan in the air. After the War Hammer Titan forms its hammer and swings it, the Attack Titan breaks free from the spike and narrowly avoids getting hit, only to be pinned to the ground by numerous smaller spikes and bombarded by anti-Titan artillery. The Attack Titan can only harden its hands and forearms to deflect an incoming swing from the War Hammer Titan. It fails, and the Attack Titan is decapitated by the blow, though Eren survives the devastating strike. The Attack Titan stares menacingly at the crowd Later, while Mikasa engages the Titan, Eren transforms into the Attack Titan again to sever the cable connecting the War Hammer Titan to its wielder. The Attack Titan is about to consume her when it is caught by surprise by an ambush by the Jaw Titan. The Attack Titan, along with Levi Ackermann, are able to fight it off.[41] However, that gives the War Hammer Titan enough time to recover and impale the Attack Titan in a web of hardened Titan flesh. The Attack Titan attempts to devour the War Hammer's crystal again, while still trapped in the confines of the hardened structure. Its teeth shatter on the crystal, and Eren is forced to eject his trapped Titan form, yet immediately transforms once more. He takes the crystal back into his hand, and watches the conflict's progression from across the battlefield. After the Colossal Titan's transformation down at the port breaks the warriors position, the Jaw Titan attempts to charge Eren down. The Attack Titan uses the Jaw Titan to crush the War Hammer's crystal The Jaw Titan avoids an attack by Mikasa and starts to repeatedly slash at the Attack Titan. The Attack Titan suffers considerable damage to its face but is able to divert a few strikes using the crystal holding the Lara Tybur. As the Jaw Titan momentarily breaks off from its attack, the Attack Titan notices that the claw marks have damaged the crystal. Soon after, when the Jaw Titan is brought down by Mikasa slashing its legs, the Attack Titan grabs and finishes dismembering it. It then jams the crystal into the defenseless Jaw Titan's mouth, and begins to squeeze its jaw in an attempt to finally break through the crystal protecting Lara Tybur. The strain causes the crystal to fragment and shatter, killing her. The Attack Titan consumes the fluids coming out of the crystal, granting Eren the powers of the War Hammer Titan. Eren then turns his attention towards the Jaw Titan, using the Attack Titan's strength to put an end to its struggling. Eren prepares to devour the Titan, though he pauses upon seeing a bright flash caused by Reiner's transformation.[42] Eren turns around and is able to incapacitate Reiner in one punch due to his lack of armor. As he sees Reiner's limp body, he notices that Reiner grabbed the Jaw Titan out of his other hand once he was punched. After deciding that he does not have the energy to take back the Titan from Reiner's grip and eat it, he leaves his Attack Titan, for he has nothing more he can do in his state of exhaustion, and flees.[43] War for Paradis arc The Attack Titan prepares to face the Marleyan forces After the Jaegerists effectively take control of the Walls, Eren returns to Shiganshina District. Coming into contact with Pieck, Eren is led to the roof of the military HQ, where he transforms after being ambushed by the Jaw Titan.[44] The two briefly fight before the Jaw Titan retreats. Eren ignores Yelena's instruction to escape underground and goes to engage the Marleyan forces. He soon encounters the Armored Titan and they fight a third time, with the Attack Titan gaining a slight advantage. When the Jaw Titan reengages to fight alongside the Armored Titan, Eren is forced to use the War Hammer Titan's powers to keep them at bay.[45] Two incapacitating shots from the Cart Titan to his head lead to the Armored Titan to pin the Attack Titan.[45] The two then violently wrestle, until the Beast Titan arrives and knocks off the Armored Titan with a projectile thrown from the Wall. The Attack Titan attempts to close the distance between the Beast Titan and itself, with Zeke protecting Eren by barraging the Armored and Jaw Titans upon their approaches. Eventually, Zeke is sniped by the actions of General Magath and the Cart Titan, falling off the top of the Wall.[46] Eren nevertheless continues to Zeke's position, defeating the Jaw Titan along the way by repeatedly bashing on the Titan's head. While doing so, another anti-Titan artillery round is fired into the Attack Titan's head, allowing for Reiner to catch up to him and begin grappling with him.[47] In the fallout of Zeke's scream, a transformed Falco Grice attacks Reiner, allowing Eren to begin escaping the Armored Titan's grip. Falco's Titan eventually breaks off to devour Porco Galliard, allowing an enraged Reiner to continue his assault on the Attack Titan. However, Eren traps the Armored Titan by hardening, and exits his Titan to begin running to Zeke on foot.[47] Inheritors Current Former Trivia The Attack Titan shares the same Japanese name with Attack on Titan: 進撃の巨人 (Shingeki no Kyojin?). (Warning! This review contains some spoilers for Attack on Titan. You have been warned.) So, it's the night before exams at school. I'm done studying and I'm lying in bed, unable to sleep due to nervousness and insomnia. I wonder about what I should do and then reach out and turn on my i-pod and my Crunchyroll app. I scan through the top titles for anything that might be on my 'want-to-watch' list or anything that caught my eye. Eventually my eyes settled upon Attack on Titan. I stared at the screen for a few minutes debating whether or not I should open it and finally watch it like my friends had insisted for the past few months. I knew the show had been overhyped out the wazoo, just like a lot of other popular shows such as Sword Art Online or Full Metal Alchemist. I'm not saying I thought it was going to be bad, as some shows are popular with good reason, but I was worried about sitting here and writting a review if, in my opinion, it was not worth the perfect ten that everyone claims it deserves. Tens have always been rare from me, especially as I delve deeper into the world of anime and find more repeating cliches and themes that tend to drag shows down. So I sat for a moment, debating whether or not to watch the show or hug my Roxas plushie and try to get some sleep. What did I do? I stayed up all night watching the entire show so I could review it, of course. Let's get down to business. Was it good? Was it bad? Chances are, if you read the score by the review, you can already tell. Story (8/10): Before anyone bites my head off like a viscious titan, let me preface this with one statement: I do love the story in this show and find it to be an intriguing concept. Ever since I was little I always wondered how ants feel. We must seem so huge, and then we go around crushing them mercilously or in some cases burning them alive. So what if a huge race of giants came and started crushing people? Instantly I was interested. I wanted to understand the titans, to see what they were and how they worked. Well, there's one of the shows flaws right off the bat. It presents a problem(with a predictible solution, mind you) in the case of the Titans, giant monsters that eat human beings, and never really solves it. It also makes the Titans not make much biological sense. If they don't eat to nourish themselves then how do they function? How does a creature maintain homeostasis without food? Do they photosynthesize light similar to plants? Maybe it has to do with the way they regenerate themselves... Who knows? The show never really explains it, anyway. It's not too big of a problem, but it's still annoying. Maybe they mean for the show to have another season, maybe it's meant to be a mystery forever. There are a frustrating ammount of unsolved mysteries in this show, and to an extent I like that and to an extent it annoys me. Before I get too sidetracked again as usual, I'm going to talk about the basic plot. So there are the people. They nearly got completely wiped out by the titans a hundred years prior to the show because titans like to eat people. Ouch. Sounds gross and painful. Imagine being ripped in half in the saliva filled mouth of a titan. It's sticky toungue up against your back as you heard your bones crack and the agonizing sound of a swallow as you were tossed roughly into the belly of the beast. Well, that's what you'd expect anyway. So these three kids Eren, Mikasa and Armin live in the city of Shiganshina(odd name) where the human's have built a set of three 50 meter high stone walls in an attempt to keep the titans out. A hundred years have passed since the last titan invasion, and therefore people believe they will be forever safe behind the walls. Squads going out to fight the titans commonly end up decimated because of their lack of advanced weaponry. One day, after some obvious foreshadowing, a collosal 60 meter titan breaks through the wall, allowing others to enter and begin massacaring the people there. Because Shiganshina is the outermost part of the outer wall(Rose), it isn't too big of a threat for the people in the center. A titan kills and eats Eren and Mikasa's mother and Eren plots revenge by planning to kill all titans. If that sounds good, it's because it is. The main story is quite fabulous, really. Even if it's a simple revenge plot at it's core, it manages to build around it quite well. Most of the time. This brings me to another issue. The show feels like the length is wrong. I'm dead serious. It feels like it should either be extended to be a much longer series, or shortened to cut out some of the superflous feeling episodes and times, like having three episodes where they're in school or when it spends a whole episode on the trial. That's great and all, but I came here to see monsters having their heads ripped off as the crush the bones of humans in their teeth. Yeah... I really let my mind run wild while watching this... and that's a fantastic thing. This show does the horror aspect beautifully. Even if you're not scared by the thought of being eaten by a giant, the way it builds suspense is utter perfection. For example, when the collosal titan first breaks through Wall Rose, oh do you know it's coming and every muscle in your body tenses waiting for it to appear. When it does it's perfect. The show manages to have moments where it's terrifying, and not in a cheap, ghost/zombie/other stock monster in your face kind of way. In a bloody kind of way. Another issue that I suppose I should tackle here is plot armor. Plot armor, plot armor, plot armor. It's like, when you're watching the show, you know Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are going to survive. You can probably tell some of the other characters will too. But the losses in each battle are enormous, even with specialized gear, professionals and cannons. Anyone could die at any moment. A titan could come crashing through a building, grab a person, crush their bones in their grasp and swallow them whole. So why on EARTH would you give someone in this show plot armor so they can't be killed? One of the main characters actually does get eaten in one of the episodes, but he comes back. It feels cheap. I know it's a story moving mechanic, but it feels so CHEAP. Why him? Why did all of the other interesting characters, and hundreds of thousands of innocent people die, but HE GETS TO LIVE? Becuase he's the main character. It's designed that way. They should've taken a page out of The Legend of the Galatic Heroes for this one and just not had plot armor at all. Okay, I've made a lot of complaints, but overall the good overwhelmingly triumphs over the bad in this story and makes the experience of watching the show exhilerating, even if it's predictable. The story is flawed, but spectacular and unique. That's all. Animation (9/10): I've heard people call this show one of the best animation fests they've seen in an anime. For me... well I suppose it's really good overall. It does something that bothers me though. It puts thick black lines around the characters, that feel too out of place... Can't they have made them thinner? I don't know. It works in a more cartoon stylised piece, but that's clearly not what this is trying to be. The rest is very realistically styled, espcially the backgrounds. So those feel out of place. Speaking of the backgrounds: they're pretty. They have a good color pallette in the city sections, and are very realistically well done. For the most part the cg blends in with the animation where it feels less perfected and smooth, and you can tell that there was no way a person drew that. Now for the good again. Now for the gore. Wait, what gore? You mean the blood? It's... just blood. Sometimes it's clumpy blood, but still just blood. You'd think that if a titan just chomped down into someone there would be viscera or bones or chunks of liver and brain tossed in. There's no bone or brain or other organs mixed into the mix most of the time, especially when characters are eaten or chucked into things. The only real time you see ubber graphic gore is when a soldier blasts his own brains out in one of the episodes and in the belly of a titan. Sound (9/10): Music is something I hold very dear to my heart. So when I hear great music in an anime, it makes my day. Boy, is the first opening theme of this show EPIC. The first ending of the show is fine as well, but that first opening, amazing. Unfortunately, the second opening will make you miss the first one. The second ending hardly caught my attention... I can't remember much about it for the life of me, and it's the day after I stayed up all night watching this thing. The music in the show itself is fine. Though it does seem out of place at times. I'm sorry, but I want something utterly badass for my titan on titan battle. Voice acting is quite nice. Really it is. I don't know if the show will have a dub(I'm guessing it will because it is so popular), but the sub was gorgeous. Characters (10/10): Now this, my friends, is truly a deserving ten. Gosh I love it when anime provides with fantastic characters(great characters and storyline are my favorite part about anything from books to movies to plays to video games to western shows to anime), and boy does this show ice off it's fantastic cake with a diverse cast. Hey, even if you hate a minor or secondary character, don't worry, odds are, in a little while they'll be titan food anyway so you don't have to worry, and on the other hand, if you like them, don't worry there'll be more reinforcements pouring in after them that are just as likeable. It may sound silly to say this, but it's a nice thing to know that you're getting a fresh cast of characters every episode or so. Well what about the major characters? Huh, what about them? Well, they're AMAZING. I freaking adore them so much. Armin: Why do people not like this guy? I love him. He's definitely not as courageous as Mikasa or Eren, but that's not a problem. Not every character, even in a show like this, needs to be a badass fighter. Why would they? I mean, Armin is a character whose pure mental strength makes up for his physical inadiquatees. Yes, he may be a coward, but his brain tends to get more people out of situations alive than any other method. He can get through a battle against seven titans with no human casualties if given proper time to plan. He's good at inferring things and figuring stuff out. Things that other characters in any form of media might just ignore or not be able to figure out. He also shows that he's remarkably human by showing he has a breaking point. Think he's' a weakling? Sure he doesn't like fighting as much, but if you just saw all of your friends get EATEN right in front of you, culminating with one of your closest friends being chomped to the point where his limbs come off before he is swallowed, you'd probably be scared too. Eren: Eren is arguably my favorite character in the show.(Yeah, yeah, I know, he's not Levi) He's driven by the classic albiet overdone force of revenge to kill all titans after one ate his mother. If he were cookiecutter from their out I would've given him a far lower score. He follows another common path of having a will that is stronger than his own physical strength in some circumstances. He has a conscience, adding another layer of depth to his character. It serves as both a strength and a weakness, as it keeps him from falling into the same pattern as the other soldiers and allows him to feel remorse and mercy, but also causes him to be off his game when he feels as though he isn't doing the right thing. You know... While his plot-armordness can be annoying at times in such an otherwise realistic and depressing show, his titan form does bring out a few new changes within himself as he turns from human into monster. It's like Doctor Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, and trust me, it's very cool. Mikasa: She's a tough character, probably the strongest out of the main three in their human forms. That's good. Sometimes she lets her emotion cloud her judgement, which is bad, but I'll use the same thing I did for Armin here: Come on! If your only living 'family' was just murdered, would you be in your right mind? She's stoic, but she cares about the people around her, and is especially protective of Eren. This makes a lot of sense, as she states several times that he's her only family left, and clearly cares for him deeply. You can take their relationship however you'd like to. Personally I don't see them as more than brother and sister. Secondary characters are pretty darn good, and like I said, chances are if you despise the heck out of them they'll be dead soon. They probably are resonably realistic in thier survival rates. Some live, some die. It isn't like the minor characters where you know they're titan food. That being said, they aren't plot armored at all. Watching this show is almost like watching Game of Thrones. Anyone can die at anytime. Anyway, there's a plethora or secondary characters in the show(gotta replace the ones that get eaten), and the most regarded as the best, from what I can tell, is Levi. People treat Levi like he's some kind of god, that's how good he is... or at least that's what I heard about him. Levi isn't perfect, and while I see why one could think so, he's dark, and hard to read. He's not afraid to make sacrifices and generally keeps a level head in battle, even if his allies are killed. All in all, he's a pretty darn good character. Sasha Braus is another character I love from the secondary character grouping. She's basically the show's comic relief, and it's done very well to show that she's capable, but just quirky enough to be hilarious. She eats a lot, and she once ate a boiled potato in a drill, granting her the name "potato girl". She's definitely one of the shows more memorable characters, and she serves to lighten up darker moods and tones. It's very well done. It doesn't kill the mood of the scene she's in, but it also doesn't underdo it. Perfectly done. Other great secondary characters include Christa, Annie, and Conny. Some of the other secondary characters aren't as good, like some of the members of Levi's team, but like I said, hey, if you don't like a character they're probably gonna be titan food anyway. The minor characters are done perfectly. They hare just enough backstory to make watching them die upsetting. A perfect example of this is Franz and Hannah, who serve as great comedic relief before their sweet little love story ends in tragedy. Titans are such assholes. Overall (9/10): Attack on Titan is a fantastic show. Even with its flaws its still a masterpiece that lived up to my every expectation. I hope they make a second season.
1 Parts Of The Fandom Are Extremely Toxic. The Attack on Titan fandom isn't a homogeneous crowd. On the contrary, several distinct factions have spawned on the internet, each dedicated to specific themes, ships, and characters. Some of them are largely innocuous, but there are a few that spew vitriol against anyone with differing opinions.
A jest co oglądać - kontynuacje Re:Zero, Attack on Titan, Yakusoku no Neverland, Dr. Stone... A co jakby czasy prehistoryczne były teraz? Pierwszym tytułem w najnowszym zestawieniu jest Dr. Stone: Stone Wars. To kontynuacja zeszłorocznego anime i jednocześnie adaptacja mangi o takim samym tytule. Możemy je znać z takich pozycji jak ReLife, Kanojo Okarishimasu i Jako Senkuu wystąpi Yuusuke Kobayashi (Natsuki Subaru z Re:Zero, Su-Won z Akatsuki no Yona i Arslan z Arslan Senki). I teraz nauczaj człowieku je wszystkie... Sytuacja komplikuje się, kiedy w serca dziewczyn wkrada się uczucie do ich szkolnego kolegi.
